Smiling is considered to be one of the most natural, even instinctive, of all human reactions. And yet, by the time we reach adulthood, researchers find that 60% of us report experiencing some degree of anxiety about visiting a dentist, with as many as 1 in 10 people exhibiting clinical “dental phobia”, which outranks all other tracked phobias - even fear of heights and fear of spiders (which ranked second and third, in case you were wondering!)
